WristMap: Simple Mapping on Your Wrist
WristMap is a pair of Android and Wear OS Apps that provide simple mapping capabilities on your wrist, even when offline. Designed for low power consumption, both the Android and Wear OS Apps can be used independently.
With WristMap, you have the option to copy offline map sets from your phone to your watch for standalone use, or you can pair your watch with a nearby phone that has an offline map set. Additionally, both Apps support online maps and allow you to load KML and GeoJson overlays from your phone.
One of the standout features of the WristMap watch App is its selection of watch face complication providers. These include four formats of location (Lat/Lon, MGRS, British Grid, and what3words), AMSL altitude in feet or meters, sunrise and sunset in your local time, "Crow Flies" distance to home with metric or imperial units, and handheld battery level.
Both the phone and watch Apps allow you to view your current location as a point on the map, and the pan and zoom of the map can be synchronized between the two devices. To obtain accurate map locations, a convenient crosshair feature is available, allowing you to tap on the map to display the location text in the selected format, which can then be copied to the clipboard.
Please note that WristMap requires external storage read permission to access map archives on your handheld device, and fine location permission to obtain locations on both your handheld and watch.
It's worth mentioning that the location, altitude, sunrise, sunset, and "Crow Flies" complications all require Location permission to operate. If permission has not been granted, these complications will display a "No permission!" message or a value of "!". Tapping on the complication will prompt you to enable the Location permission, and you may also need to enable location services. If location cannot be obtained, the complications will show an "X" or "Failed".
